Exciting projects are in motion at the Initiative,
the next 6 months look to be filled with great opportunity for our community.
What's happening TODAY?
Visitor Information Point, is open daily providing information to tourists and locals, the VIP also stocks locally crafted products.
Preloved Charity Shop is also open daily providing good quality goods and a recycling service.
Preloved Awards are open for 2014/15 further information and application forms can be downloaded from this site.
Walking Festival for 2014 had a dissapointing attendance however with new interest for a local walking group we hope to revitalise the festival for 2015. Keeping fit and enjoying our beautiful local scenery along the way is a great way to get out and about. We will be annoucing the dates for 2015 festival before the end of the year.
Bandstand Sundays was a huge success this year with over 600 people attending to watch the dancers and musician and over 170 preformers showing their talents, Dalbeattie really put on some great shows over the summer. Great to see the bandstand and Colliston park busy on an Sunday afternoon.
Kippford Pontoon project is now nearly complete, official opening ceremony is being planned for 27th September at 2pm. This project has taken over 10 years to fulfill and we are now delighted the public pontoon will allow local and visitors easy access to the water. A great asset for the community.
We are still looking at the possibilities with hydro electric power from Barr Burn, we have sought further reports on costing and governement funding. Watch this space for further developments.
Dalbeattie High Street Improvement Scheme, working directly with 30 local businesses and using D&G council shop improvement funding scheme we hope to revitalise the Dalbeattie shop fronts and improve the look of our high street. We hope to see development of this project in early 2015.
Work with Dalbeattie High School has continued into the new academic year. We have partnered up with a group of S6 pupils to put together a multi media project, four screens have gone up in Dalbeattie, Kinnairds, Library, Visitor Informaton Point, and Museum these screens will show mini films complied by the S6 pupils showcasing the schools and the communities achievements. The project has been fully funded by Dalbeattie & District Lions Club. First film is due to be shown on 18th September.
Dalbeattie Hardrock Challenge, in its 11th year and looking to be busier that ever again this year. Don't forget to get your registration in for both Junior and Senior event before it's filled up. Event dates 4th and 5th October at Dalbeattie 7stanes Trail Head.
What's planned for 2014/15?
We have a few project ideas coming up, would you be interested in Sea Rowning?? Builiding and racing skiffs launching from the new pontoon at Kippford? What about an outdoor gym, or skate park? Looking to help out in the community Rounall Wood clearing days are being planned for the Autumn. Interested in any of our projects or events pop into the office and get involved.
